Oct 3, 2021Weighed Down: Overcoming PrideBy: John HerringSeries: Weighed DownWe're looking at another weight that can damage our relationship with God and with others. It can also give us a distorted view of ourselves throughout each day of our lives. The weight we'll be exploring together will be "Pride." Pride happens when we place ourselves as the center of our focus rather than God. One of Satan’s best tools to move us away from God is to set our focus on ourselves. He did it in the Garden of Eden and has continued to do so through every generation. Proverbs 16:18-19 tells us that "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud." We also find that God opposes the proud. In fact, pride is sin in our lives because it focuses on SELF rather than on God. There are many passages throughout Bible that address the dangers of pride. We will look at several of these together. One example we will explore that will give us a clear illustration of pride in contrast with humility is in Luke 18:9-14.
