The virgin Mary has a unique story that no one else in history can fully understand. The angel Gabriel came to announce the coming birth of the newborn King. What did that mean for Mary? We're  looking at another weight that can damage our relationship with God and with others. It can also give us a distorted view of ourselves throughout each day of our lives. The weight we'll be exploring together will be "Pride." Pride happens when we place ourselves as the center of our focus rather than God. One of Satan’s best tools to move us away from God is to set our focus on ourselves. He did it in the Garden of Eden and has continued to do so through every generation. Proverbs 16:18-19 tells us that "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud." We also find that God opposes the proud. In fact, pride is sin in our lives because it focuses on SELF rather than on God. There are many passages throughout Bible that address the dangers of pride. We will look at several of these together. One example we will explore that will give us a clear illustration of pride in contrast with humility is in Luke 18:9-14.

We're continuing our series through our Core Values! Last week we had the privilege to explore some key foundational truths to everything we do as a church.  Today we will be in Mark 2:13-17 as we discover that "Messy Ministry" is a necessary part of church life. We cannot fake it until we make it. We cannot put on a mask and pretend that everything is okay when it's not. There is no such thing as un-messy ministry. We have to allow vulnerability and a willingness to meet people at their needs. This is exactly what Jesus did.
